Esri Development Center EDC

The Esri Development Center (EDC) program is an initiative by Esri to support university departments with outstanding teaching and research in the GIS area. The Institute of Cartography and Geoinformation (IKG) at ETH Zurich is one of two EDCs in Switzerland (since 2012). The EDC at IKG is implemented as essential part in research and teaching by the students and employees to establish strong ties between research and industry. This is achieved by the close cooperation of Esri Inc., Esri Switzerland and the Institute of Cartography and Geoinformation.

Special Resources

  • Esri training courses for employees and students
  • Additional technical support
  • Contact and direct project support by Esri developers and consultants
  • Tickets for the Esri User Conference and the Developer Summit
  • Annual EDC student of the year award for outstanding student achievements at IKG

Objectives

  • Support of students with software, consulting and training courses
  • Promote multidisciplinary collaborations within the ETH Zurich and beyond
  • Leverage innovative GIS development in education and research
  • Enhance transfer of technology and knowledge between research and industry

Contact

EDC Strategy Meeting

The EDC Strategy Meeting took place in the autumn semester on 22 October in Esri Berlin. The exchange started with the latest news about the ArcGIS platform for education and science and the related strategic topics on the Esri agenda.
This year's main goal was to give a research overview of ArcGIS and GeoAI and ML. Esri presented the session through the latest developments in this area, followed by a discussion on the experiences in the individual EDCs. Everyone agreed that knowledge sharing and learning should be improved for everyone during the year between meetings on different products, use cases, and projects. However, the meeting in Berlin is an important milestone, also due to the combination of the Esri European DevSummit, which was used with pleasure.
